Lisnagarvey, of course, will be competing in the first ever full Irish Hockey League season and, after signing Irish internationals Paul Gleghorne and Neal Glassey, they can’t wait for 26th September to arrive.

“Neil and Paul are both quality additions to the squad,” he said.

“This season is going to be a big change for us all but everyone at the club is looking forward to it.

“It’s a great time for Irish hockey because a lot of people, who would never have shown much interest in hockey, have been asking me about the new league and about how Ireland are doing.

“They’ve picked up things from the papers and from social media so hopefully we can continue with this feel-good factor going into the new season.”

Garvey, however, will go into the new term without Jason Lynch, who has joined Pembroke alongside his brother Karl.
