Lyness inspires College team

A GREG Lyness inspired Lurgan College recorded their biggest win of the season as they defeated Strabane GS 29-5 in an entertaining affair.

The College started aggressively with the pack maintaining momentum allowing the backline to puncture the visitors defence at will.

Centre Chris Clague was first on the scoresheet as raced away down the wing to touch down in the corner. Greg Lyness followed this up with a score of his own as he received a flat pass in midfield and ran in unopposed under the posts.

At this stage the College were in the ascendancy and prop Adam Carson led by example as he drove on his pack. Lyness then scored an almost identical try as Josh McKay picked him out with another fine pass and captain McKay tucked away the conversion to put the College into an almost unassailable lead.

The game also gave an opportunity to blood new players with Peter Keys James Dawson looking particularly impressive. Nicky Moore was next to score in the corner although Strabane responded with one of their own before Lyness put the game beyond doubt with another fine individual effort.

Best on the day for the College was Greg Lyness. Next up is an away match at Down High School.
