Magee and Brennan next to go on loan

Joe Finlay has already joined Ards whilst Mark Carson is now at Loughgall and it looks like Magee will join Finlay at Ards with Brennan making the short journey to Lurgan Celtic.

Magee, of course, started the season as a first-team regular but hasn’t had a look-in since Gary Hamilton’s appointment. The boss says that the attacking winger, is a luxury his side cannot currently afford as they battle to survive relegation.

“David needs to go and play games,” he said.

“As I’ve explained to David, I feel that whilst he’s a great option going forward, in the situation we’re in, he switches off defensively and we need players who can defend first and foremost.

“We’re already conceding goals as it is and we need to be as tight as we can possibly be defensively. I can’t afford to play with two out and out wingers in our situation. There aren’t too many teams around the league who do play with two. The majority of teams have hard-working players on the wing because that’s the type of league it is.

“The sort of football to get it wide to players like Raymie McCoy and Stevie McBride doesn’t happen now. The emphasis is greater on defence. That’s not the way you want it to be but unfortunately that’s the way it is.”

However, Hamilton also says that the chance is there for the 22 year-old to come back into the squad next season:

“David’s been told the same as the other lads. If he does well on loan, I can bring him back in again next season. If we were sitting fifth of sixth in the league, David would be in the squad and he’d be coming on regularly.”

The Glenavon boss says he is still keen to bring in one more new face to his squad this month, but cannot do so until somebody heads through the exit door at Mourneview Park.

“After Saturday, we’re still looking but there would have to be money made available before anybody comes in i.e. by players going out,” he said.

“Until that happens, we won’t be bringing anybody in. In an ideal world we’d be looking to bring someone else in but at this minute in time it’s not going to happen. Who knows what’s going to happen between now and the end of January though.”
