Magee is staying says Quinn

GLENAVON boss Marty Quinn has dispelled rumours that star defender Jay Magee is set for a summer move to the Oval.

Current champions Glentoran have been linked with the former Ards man in recent months but according to his current gaffer, Magee is happy to remain at Mourneview Park.

“I can put that one to bed completely,” said Quinn about the rumour of a potential upcoming transfer.

“That will not happen. Jay Magee is very happy at Glenavon and I’m happy to have him. He doesn’t want to go anywhere; that’s from his own mouth last Thursday night. He’s quite happy here.

“We had to clear the air on that one because there is too much rumour mongering and speculation about it and it’s a no go. I’m delighted with Jay’s attitude and want him to stay at the club.”

The boss will soon be making sure that several other squad members don’t go through the exit door at Mourneview Park come the end of the season and is keen to get a better side on the pitch in order to lift the club back to ‘where they should be.’

“I’ve spoken to seven or eight players last Thursday night and put my plans to them but at the moment they will remain nameless,” he told the ‘MAIL.’

“I think the majority of the players know that I’m not just there to keep the bed warm. I’m there to try and get this club up where they should be. Facility-wise we’re second to none and we’ve been stagnating for 10 years or more now. We’ve been totally on the wrong side of the table and my plans are to get us on the right side of it and get a team out on the park that we can be proud of and that will be competing for major honours in the next couple of years.

“That’s how I will be judged this time next year when I have my own team out there and if they are performing as poorly as they are at the minute then I’ll certainly take all the flak.”
