Maggie and Grace through to finals

THE Nellie Garrett Stableford Foursomes competition was played at Portstewart Golf Club on June 30 with 57 ladies taking part.

Winners were Maggie Penny (15) and Grace McDowell (18) combined handicap 17 with 38 points. In second place were Mary Gillan (33) and Paula O’Kane (27) combined handicap 30 with 34 points.

Third place went to Catherine Mullin (33) and Jennifer Mullin (23) combined handicap 28 with 32 points and in fourth place were Amy Glover (14) and Mary Glover (9) combined handicap 12 with 32 points. The final of this competition is in Knock Golf Club on September 10.

Meanwhile on July 7, 48 ladies played in the Peggy Nelson Trophy qualifying competition. The Northern District Final will be held in Dunmurry Golf Club on July 26. Winners in each of three sections were:

Section A 1>15 Maggie Penny (15) over Jane Duke (12) over Mary Glover (9) each with 32 points.

Section B 16>24 Grace McDowell (18) with 36 points, Thelma Smith (19) with 33 points, Jennifer Mullin (23) with 32 points.

Section C 25>36 Carolyn Christie (32) over Louie Fillis (27) with 36 points, Noleen Donnelly (31) with 30 points.Three ladies had twos: Sadie Delargy, Louie Fillis and Inge Rowan.

On July 14, 68 lady members and 35 visitors played in the Open Week competition. Prizes were awarded to the following:

Winner - Helen Anderson(18) with 39 points; Best Gross -Maura Diamond (3) with 30 gross; Runner up - Clare Harley (21) with 35 points; Third - Anne Paul (23) with 34 points; Fourth - Noleen Donnelly (31)with 33 points; Front Nine - Denise Harper (15) with 18 points; Back Nine - S McFaul (Malone) (12) with 19 points.

The visitors prize was won by Mary O’Kane (Roepark) (12) with 32 points. Elaine Cameron and S Carson (Burnfoot) were the only players with twos.

On June 30, 19 ladies played in the Voucher Competition on the Riverside Course. The winner was Carol Diamond (35) with 26 points and the runner-up was Laureen Greenlees (29) with 21 points.

Nineteen ladies also played on July 7. The winner was G Tweed (36) with 24 points and the runner-up was Margaret Jamieson (36) with 23 points.
