Doherty has cemented his place in Gary Hamilton’s starting 11 and continues to impress with lively performances. The 21 year-old certainly isn’t afraid to take the game to his opponents and again looked to carry the ball through to the side’s off-colour strikeforce. He was also stern in the tackle and was busy getting amongst the Linfield midfield, breaking up their play.

Gaffer Gary Hamilton was full of praise for Doherty, claiming that the midfielder is one of the most talented players the league-winner has ever played with.

“This is a big statement, but in my eyes he’s one of the most gifted individuals that I’ve ever worked with,” he said.

“I’ve played with a lot of good players but in my eyes Ciaran is as good as there is. Obviously, it’s only four games that I’m judging him on but he’s been different class.

“Hopefully he can carry that through the next few games and then right through the season because if he plays the way he can play then Glenavon Football Club is going to benefit.”

Goalkeeper Davy O’Hare was also in fantastic form and made several top class saves, notably from Aaron Burns’ drive shortly after the break. The keeper could do little about either of Linfield’s well-taken goals.

Anto McGonnell impressed with a lively display and a special mention must also be reserved for fellow substitute Brendan Shannon. Coming on early, he put in a committed performance before holding his hands up to an appreciative Glenavon crowd, by way of apology for his error in the festive derby game. From the fans’ applauding the reaction, safe to say that it’s apology accepted!
