‘Mail’ man of the match

SURPRISE, surprise, Jay Magee was once again the pick of the Glenavon players on Saturday afternoon.

The fact that the central defender has been my MOTM in four of the last five league outings speaks volumes about the performance of the team, with Magee and his defensive compadres coming under constant threat.

Magee was again first to every ball and did his best to stop a Glentoran side who were obviously missing star-man Gary Hamilton up top. Richard Gibson and teenager Martin Murray didn’t hold quite as big a threat to Glenavon’s defence but Magee still had to be on-form as too many of team-mates weren’t.

Substitutes Mark Miskimmin and Anto McGonnell also stood out as both had a positive effect on their side, coming on at the break. Miskimmin offered Glenavon’s only real attacking threat whilst McGonnell chased down his Glentoran counterparts and showed a good range of passing going forward.

With other players failing to impress, Miskimmin and McGonnell have surely staked their claim for a starting place next week.
