'MAIL' Man of the Match

SATURDAY'S game against Portstewart was the first time Sammy Stewart had completed 90 minutes for Glenavon.

And he proved his worth with a sterling performance against the Seasiders, scoring a goal in the process.

Stewart took it well too. It wasn’t the best pass from James Costello for the midfielder to get on to but he moved onto the ball well and got enough of a poke to send it into the net.

On top of this he has come back from Scotland a completely different player from the one which left Glenavon a couple of seasons ago. He has been built up during his time away and he spent Saturday using his newfound strength to his advantage.

He has found a new gear in terms of his quickness too – indeed that was a key element in the build-up to his goal.

Plus he has developed an eye to play a great pass which, in games to come, will hopefully create chances for Mark Miskimmin and Tony Grant to put away.

Given too that he’s still settling back into the set-up it’s fair to say there’s more to come from Sammy Stewart.
