Making his 'Mark' in the Riverside Cup

MARK Harvey hit form on the Riverside Course at Portstewart Golf Club on Saturday to put his name on silverware.

Mark won the Riverside Cup by three points with his return of 42 off his handicap of 17. The front nine was covered in five over par and netted him 21 points. A wee slip at the tenth, index 1 on the card, where a blank was recorded, did not cause Mark much concern as he rattled off five three pointers coming in to add a further 21 points for his total of 42.

Liam Ferris claimed runners-up spot for himself by carding 39 points. If Liam could have avoided a couple of blanks on his front nine of 17 and another blank on the home run, who knows what his total would have been?

However, a birdie at the twelfth and several three pointers and he banked 22 points more for his second place. Peter Gabbey had the same start as Liam, 17 points out with two blanks, but Liam’s birdie meant that Peter’s 21 return leg was one short and kept him in third place.

Countback had to be employed to separate Peter from Mark Donaghy (6) also on 38. Two single pointers and a blank at the fifth limited Mark to 17 out but his back nine was much better with a birdie at the fourteenth for a four pointer, 21 points back and fourth spot .

Best gross score went to Martin O’Kane (6) for his 75. The high and low points were his birdie three across the pond at the par four ninth and an ugly six at the par three thirteenth.
