Man short Millpark Seconds struggle against Cregagh

MILLPARK Seconds travelled to Cregagh Seconds on Saturday looking to extend their lead at the top of the table but found the home batting line up in fine form.

With captain Maxwell a man short and Cregagh winning the toss things didn’t go to plan for the locals with both Cregagh openers dropped in the opening overs.

As the old saying goes catches win matches and this was to prove true. It was Maxwell who made the initial breakthrough with the Cregagh skipper walking too far across his stumps, being bowled around his legs.

Then in an almost carbon copy of that dismissal the Cregagh number three was also bowled by Maxwell.

Willis was not to be outdone and with a smart cover catch by Michael Chambers removed the dangerous Porter, but Simpson stood firm for the Belfast side and was reprieved, being dropped three times before finally playing onto his stumps from a Chambers delivery.

But with overs running out and plenty of wickets in hand Cregagh really took into the Millpark bowling and with the locals being a man light in the field this began to show as the run rate began to climb; Cregagh being able to close on a mammouth 189-7 from 40 overs with Ian McCart and Jordan Willis both claiming two late wickets a piece.

The Millpark batting reply started steadily if unspectacularly with Jordan Willis and David Maxwell both finding the bowling a little tough.

With David being the first man out for 11, Willis at number three hit a quick fire 17 before falling LBW to Thompson.

Michael Willis showed some promise with some fine shots falling for 16 and skipper Maxwell was the last man out with 17. The only other Millpark batsman able to make double figures, it was never going to be enough for Millpark who batted out the overs but were beaten by 100 runs.
