Manager happy with win

ARMAGH Minor manager Paul McShane was happy with the win over Monaghan.

Speaking after the game in Newry last Saturday night he said: “Some of the aspects of our game, in particular the tackling, were very positive.

“But at times we gave the ball away and that unforced error led to the Monaghan goal, so you could say that a lot of things will have to be looked at in training.”

Full forward Paul McGeown, whose first half goal proved to be the launch-pad for the victory, said: “The goal gave us a bit of a lead at a crucial time, but it doesn’t matter who scores on the day as long as we get the result.”

Young Wolfe Tones wing-back Ruari McCaughley, who had an assured performance, suggested that the experience of having played in a McLarnon Cup final had helped him deal with the pressures of the Championship.

“From my point of view,” he said, “getting to play in big games with St. Michael’s certainly helped.”

The Tones man was seen covering in several positions against Monaghan but he was just happy to be involved.

He said: “When you’re asked to do a job, it’s all about getting on with it. I thought all our players rose to the challenge so it’s great to be in the Ulster semi-final.”
