Manager Kearney pleased with season's performance

AS Limavady United signed off for the season at the Showgrounds manager Oran Kearney was more than happy with the way his team performed.

"It's great to sign off in the final home game of the season with a convincing win. I know that the league was probably beyond us before the season but we still had to make sure we won.

"If we hadn't won and then the other teams had slipped up then we would never have forgiven ourselves. That's why it was still important to win the game and we made sure that the players knew that before the game. It was a good win, a good performance, lots of goals and overall a very pleasing day at the office," said Kearney.

With all the strikers hitting the target Kearney felt it was just reward for the performances that they put in.

"It was great to see all three of the strikers hit the target in a game were we created plenty of chances.

"Shane (Jennings) scored a great goal very early in the game and that set us up form things to come.

"Big Davy (Patton) also scored a super goal. It was a very acrobatic bi-cycle kick and just reward for his endeavour.

" 'Hutchy' too his two very good goals at the end as well to secure the points and give us the win. It all means that it's very close for the top goal-scorer award come the end of the season."

With the visitors scoring two goals the manager felt that earlier in the season this wouldn't have happened.

"Early on in the season if we had of conceded those types of goals then I would have been disappointed. I wasn't too hard on the players for this because at this stage of the season when there isn't much to play for it can become lax. There were a few lapses in concentration that I'm sure wouldn't have happened earlier in the season.

"I wouldn't quite say that this was a meaningless game but it certainly was a bit like that at times.Sometimes that can't be helped at the end of the season but overall I can't be hard on the players after the season we have had, " Kearney said.
