Manificent seven for High School

Taylor Cup

Ballycastle High School 7 v 0 Boys’ Model, Belfast

AFTER a last minute change of venue due to the frosty weather conditions, Ballycastle High School got their Taylor Cup campaign off to the best possible start at Antrim Forum on Wednesday afternoon.

Ballycastle showed rustiness early on in this match and failed to keep possession for any length of time, but they soon got to grips with their opposition.

In the tenth minute, Mark McAllister made a great break through the midfield and slipped an inch perfect pass through to Trevor Linton who got the slightest of touches to guide it past the goal keeper.

This seemed to dent the confidence of Ballycastle’s opponents who conceded again one minute later, again Trevor Linton on target.

To Boys’ Models’ credit the battled hard to try and get back into the game but when they conceded a penalty corner just before half time, Trevor Linton had no problems in firing in his third of the game.

There was still enough time on the clock for Aaron Douglas to score after good work from Richard McConaghie out on the right wing.

Half time: Ballycastle 3-0 Boys’ Model, Belfast.

The game was put well and truly out of sight straight after half time when after an excellent save by the Models’ keeper, Craig Henry was on hand to score the fifth goal of the game on what was his first start or the school.

The second half was a very one sided affair with a second goal of the game from Aaron Douglas and a late strike Richard McConaghie to complete the scoring.

Ballycastle now travel to play Nendrum College, Comber, in their second game of the competition with the hope of building on this excellent performance.
