Marathon personal best for Brennan at Newry event

Larne AC’s Ian Brennan ran a personal best at the Newry City Marathon on Sunday (May 25), while Thomas Craig, Dominic Watt and Claire McGuinness performed well in the half marathon.

Brennan had a very strong run and achieveda time of 3:40:19 (77th).

First home for the club in the half marathon was Craig, finishing in 54th place (1:29:31, pb).

Watt was next to cross the line for the club in 1:52:08 (298th). Another personal best was sought by McGunness who finished strongly with a time of 2:04:45 putting her in 470th position.

Rocky race

Larne Athletic Club runners took part in two mountain events this week, starting with ‘Rocky’ - the sixth round of the Hill and Dale Series.

Thursday’s four-mile race began at Leitrim Lodge finishing with the fast descent of Rocky Mountain.

Larne’s Andy Gregg made the most of the runable trails and the well-defined descents to finish 29th (39:14).

Laura Smith achieved 138th place (51:15), a result which saw her finish second in the Female Vet40 Category. Injury forced Dale Smith to withdraw just 300 yards into the race.

On Saturday morning, Andy Gregg took part in the Chain Reaction Belfast Hills Race finishing in a time of 36:23 on a tough course shortened to 8K due to a landslide. In 10th overall, Gregg won the prize for first Vet40.

Elsewhere, three Larne AC members had a very successful outing at the recent Maghera 10k race.

Kirsty Sharratt finished fifth female and first in the FV35 in 42:46. Ruth Wilson recorded a personal best 46:31 to claim second in the FV40 category.

Heather Baxter was delighted to break the 48-minute barrier and claimed second in the FV45 category (47:39).
