Mark McLaughlin first over the line at Aghadowey in 1600 Bangers class

ONCE again the sun shone at Aghadowey Stock Car Stadium on Friday 10 September for the Irish Championships for the 1600 Bangers and 2L Sierra class.

The Irish Championship is what the drivers’ race for all season and the grids were determined by the points the drivers had earned this season.

Irish Championship 1600 Bangers

Mark McLaughlin was in pole position with Lee McCloy alongside him in second position. Over 20 cars lined up for the championship but following a pile up at the pit corner the race had to be restarted.

Mark McLaughlin held on to pole position with Lee McCloy second and Jonathan McMullan in third place.

Irish Championship 2L Sierras

The 2 L Sierras lined up with Dessie Kearney in pole position with Campbell Percy alongside him on the front row and Peter Henderson and Ronnie White on the second row.

Dessie Kearney led for most of the race however Peter Henderson snatched first place from him and went on to win the Championship with Dessie Kearney in second place and Andrew Percy third.

Junior Stocks - Mark Graham from Maghera finished first in both races for the Junior Stocks.

Our next meeting is on Friday 17 September featuring the 1600 Lightning Rods and Junior Stocks Irish Championship.

The Lightning Rods have been the tightest class this year with different drivers winning each night.

With all the drivers competing hard for the silverware this meeting is not to be missed. Racing starts at 7.15pm.
