Marshall the man of the moment in testimonial

Larne Rugby Club are set to recognise the remarkable achievements of one of their own on Boxing Day.

The Glynn men are gearing up to host a Christmas cracker of a match for long-serving player Stephen Marshall who will be centre of attention as he takes to the field for his 20-year testimonial (2:30 pm).

The game will see a Stephen Marshall XV battle it out with ex-Grammar Medallion XV, with proceeds going to the Injured Players’ Foundation (IPF).

The club hopes to run a ballot of prizes, donations for which which will help contribute towards the work of thechosen charity. The IPF helps look after players who have been injured for life, and works towards helping to prevent future injuries through research and education.

During the last two decades the full-back has been an integral part of rugby in Larne.

A junior Ulster player, he was a key part of the side which won promotion to Qualifying 1 in ‘97, and the club’s tour of Australia a year later. In 2005 he was central in the team which went unbeaten in Qualifying 3. He has also played in both the Gordon West and Crawford Cup finals.
