Masters seven points clear at top of pool league

Michelin Masters still hold a healthy seven-point cushion at the top of the Ballymena Towers Pool League - despite both the leaders and nearest challengers dropping points last week.

While Michelin would have anticipated a tough encounter against third-placed Diamond Dazzlers, they will have been surprised to learn that title rivals Connolly’s B could only beat mid-table Coach Bar by the same 4-2 margin.

Ballee Black Ballers 4, Connolly’s A 2: Peter Moore got the home team off to a winning start when he beat Pat McAnally Snr by a 2-1 scoreline and Neil Weir doubled the lead when he came from a frame down to beat Sean Donnelly.

Jason Weir made it 3-0 when he beat Joey McNally in straight frames before Connolly’s pulled one back when Niall McElroy defeated Paul Smyth.

The Dunvale side’s comeback continued when Keiran Butler had a win in straight frames over Lewis Boyd but Allister Law clinched victory for Ballee by beating Johnny Walker 2-1. POM - Niall McElroy.

Michelin Masters 4, Diamond Dazzlers 2: David Armstrong got Masters off to a winning start when he defeated Malcolm Graffin in straight frames before Jimmy Knowles increased Michelin’s lead to 2-0 when he beat Brendan O’Mullan by a 2-1 scoreline.

Alan Armstrong made it 3-0 when he defeated Robert Hargan in straight frames and Michelin looked on course for a ‘full house’ when Rick McMaster made it 4-0 when he beat Chris Gordon .

Diamond began a mini comeback when Adrian Rourke had a very good 2-1 win over Drew Sloan and they claimed a second point when Ian Boal had a win against Alan Rainey. POM - Adrian Rourke.

Diamond Duffers 1, Michelin Inbetweeners 5: The away team got off to a good start when they won the first two games without dropping a frame, their winners being Gary Ormandy and Finton Long who defeated Liam O’Kane and Kylie Lennox.

Gareth Rowe increased the lead to 3-0 when he beat Darren McFetridge by a 2-1 scoreline and Inbetweeners then stretched their lead to 4-0, although Phil Houston had to come from a frame down to defeat Matthew Peacock to do so.

Jarlath Downey pulled one back for the Diamond when he beat Lee Wright in straight frames but in the last game Ryan Logan defeated Jason Olgilvy to clinch a fifth point for Inbetweeners. POM - Jarlath Downey.

Fairhill Hustlers 5, Fairhill Dreamers 1: George McCullough got the Hustlers off to a good start when he beat Guy Rodgers by a 2-1 scoreline.

Hustlers won the next three games all by 2-0 scorelines, their winners being Paul Hayes, Justin Kilpatrick and Robert Graham, to make the match score 4-0.

The Dreamers belated awoke from their slumber as Sean Brannigan beat Ritchie Irwin in straight frames to cut the deficit but in the final game, Richard Campbell came from a frame down to defeat Gareth Montgomery to earn a fifth point for Hustlers. POM - Justin Kilpatrick.

Social Club 1, Ballee Rollers 5: Rollers got off to a flying start when they won the first three games all by 2-0 scorelines through Shane Hillis, Dean Greer and Aaron Browne.

A fourth win for Ballee followed as Stefan Armstrong battled back from being one down to win against John Fleck.

Ross Hill, despite playing with an eye injury, opened Social Club’s account on the night by beating Josh Macrory but Frazer Young had the final say for Ballee when he beat Brian Boyd in straight frames. POM - Stefan Armstrong.

Connolly’s B 4, Coach Bar 2: Connolly’s went into a 2-0 lead through Pat McAnally and Brett McLaughlin who defeated Davy Carlisle and Raymond Lynn.

Coach pulled one back when Donald Alexander beat Barry McLarnon by a 2-1 scoreline but back came Connolly’s when they won games four and five through Alan Davidson and Dee Erwin who defeated Darren Gilmore and Davy Gillespie.

In the final game KD Crabbe pulled another back for Coach when he defeated Dean Dunlop in straight frames.
