McAllister tops Larne runners

Six Larne Athletic Club runners made the long trek to Limavady on Thursday evening for the ‘Round the Bridges’ race. A mainly flat course and dry weather made for almost ideal racing conditions and the Larne contingent made the most of it in the 10-mile event.

It was no surprise that Phelim McAllister was first home for the club, finishing in 11th place with a superb time of 61 minutes 35 seconds.

Next over the line was Paul Tilson who was delighted with a personal best time of 65 minutes 56 seconds. Tilson’s running is going from strength to strength this year having already completed two marathons and four half-marathons. He must be the club’s most prolific competitor and, over eight days has competed in the Ards half marathon, Hillclimb handicap, Round the Bridges and Saturday’s 5k Belfast Parkrun.

Larne AC’s top female runner, Geraldine Quigley, was next home finishing as third female. Geraldine appears to be putting her recent injury problems behind her and ran an excellent time of 70 minutes 2 seconds.

Phil Smith and Dan Magill had a great tussle during the race with Phil just narrowly pipping his team-mate to the line with a time of 78 minutes 19 seconds while Dan crossed the line in a personal best time, just seven seconds behind.

Heather Baxter was the final Larne competitor and showed she is slowly returning to form with a time of 83 minutes 29 seconds - the exact same time she had completed last year’s race in!

Results: Phelim McAllister 11th (61.35); Paul Tilson 42nd (65.56); Geraldine Quigley 62nd (3rd female) (70.02); Phil Smith 123rd (78.19); Dan Magill 126th (78.26); Heather Baxter 150th (83.29).
