McCall delighted with United

BALLYMONEY United manager Joe McCall admitted he would have taken a draw before Saturday's JJB Sports Irish Cup tie at Institute.

The Championship men were minutes away from causing the shock of the fifth round and on this display, the Londonderry side know they have it all to do at the Riada Stadium if they want to win Wednesday evening's replay.

"Being honest I would have taken a replay, before the game," McCall admitted after the 1-1 draw.

"For us to come away to a senior club then, yes, I would have taken a draw prior to the match but obviously I would have rather taken the win whenever we were in front with only a few minutes remaining.

"We know what Institute are all about and what we'll come up against on Wednesday night and we'll be up for it."

The United gaffer was thrilled by his players' showing at the Riverside Stadium.

"It was a super performance by the boys," he said.

"Institute is a difficult place to come to, they always put you under pressure but I felt we coped quite well with it. The goal we conceded from my point of view was a bad one. It bounced inside our box and then the shot bounced into the ground and over our keeper, who I have to admit was outstanding for us.

"We worked extremely hard and had a good shape about us and young 19-year-old Mark Gillan took his goal well, so things are going good for us, but I'm not going to go overboard. "

Ballymoney entertain Institute this Wednesday at the Riada Stadium, kick-off 7.45pm.

Meanwhile, Glebe Rangers will play their postponed fifth round tie with Ballinamallard tonight (Tuesday), also at the Riada Stadium. An away tie with either Ballymena United or Ards awaits the winner in the next round.
