McCall says young guns will come through

BALLYMONEY United manager Joe McCall's message to his side this week was simple: Don't panic!

The Toon find themselves bottom of the table, however with only five games gone in Championship 1 he isn’t ready for alarm bells to start ringing yet.

He said: “We are renowned for being a team difficult to score against in this league, but this season we have been leaking goals badly and the goals-against column shows that.

“It’s early days in the season, we’re not going to panic over it but we’re certainly not happy about being down there either.”

Ballymoney threw away a two goal lead to lose 3-2 at home to Institute at the Riada Stadium on Saturday.

The home side got off to the perfect start when Randal Reid got on the end of an inch-perfect cross from Hugh og Boyle and headed into the top corner.

Institute were lucky not to be down to ten men when their goalkeeper brought down Mark Gillan on the edge of the box. He gave a sigh of relief when the referee showed him a yellow card.

Just before the break Ballymoney went two up.

Gareth McLaughlin - with the aid of a strong wind - hit a free-kick from the edge of the box which flew into the net to the keeper’s embarrassment.

At the start of the second half Institute pulled a goal back.

A long clearance from their keeper was volleyed home by Divin.

Michael McQuitty had a glorious chance to put Ballymoney 3-1 up but headed the ball into the keeper’s arms.

Institute then went straight up the other end and made Ballymoney pay for the miss.

McShane did well down the left and crossed for that man Divin to fire past Matty McGraw.

Taylor kept the sides level when he headed David Gage’s header off the line.

The visitors completed their remarkable comeback when substitute Harkin cut inside and fired low past McGraw.

Next up for Ballymoney is a trip to Ballinamallard this Saturday.
