McCarey put pen to new Ports contract

McCarey, who turns 33 in January, joined the Ports in the close season at the conclusion of his contract with Glentoran. He had considered retiring, but that was until he spoke with Niall, and immediately he bought into the vision for the club sold to him by the Ports boss. His form since signing has been a standout in a Portadown team sitting fourth in the Sports Direct Premiership. With six clean sheets in nineteen appearances Currie has been full of praise for his goalkeeper, describing him as the best in the league. Speaking after McCarey put pen to paper, Currie couldn’t hide his joy after completing this latest piece of squad building, “We’re delighted to get the big man on board for next season. Hopefully we’re showing our wonderful supporters that we are not a club that just accepts losing our best players. We will fight to continue to build as there is no other way to progress if the big boys are just going to come in and pluck our assets. Aaron is loving his football again and has been a massive presence both on the pitch and off it. We’re over the moon to have another year with him.” Aaron has become a firm fans favourite, displaying his passion for the club, and staying for another season was an easy decision for him, “Listen I’m delighted to sign for another year. From the day that I met Niall he has been true to his word that he would put a smile back on my face again. It was a no brainer for me, I’m enjoying my football, we have a great dressing room and have a great set of fans that have been very welcoming to me and my family. We have had a good start to the season and now it’s time to roll the sleeves up again going into what can be a difficult part of season and try and build on our start.”
