McCarroll McConnell Stableford event at Galgorm Castle

At halfway in the McCarroll McConnell sponsored Stableford held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club there was a three way tie between Andrew Ballentine (17), David Stirling jnr (5) and Ronald Beckington (10).

Two points behind them came Paul Sittlington (11) followed by Gary Marks (7) and Graham Martin (7) at one and three points respectively further behind.

Through thirteen Ballentine was the clear leader by two points over Beckington who was being pushed hard by Sittlington and Stirling jnr. a point behind. Marks was a further two points down followed by Martin another point behind.

With two to play Ballentine was still leading by two points from Beckington with Sittlington three points behind the leader.

A point behind Sittlington came Stirling jnr and Marks with Martin another point away. Ballentine with a two bogey finish held on to win overall by one point from Sittlington (birdie, par) the overall runner-up. Stirling jnr finished birdie, par to win Division 1 with Marks (two pars) in second. Beckington fell away over the closing two holes (double bogey, bogey) and was joined by Martin (two pars) and with a better back nine Martin claimed third place a point behind Marks.

In Division 2 through twelve Philip Galloway after a ‘ding’ at eleven held a two point advantage over Chris Nicholl (12) who was two points ahead of Emil Wylie (14) and Graham Simms (15). Up the Grove and Galloway was still two points ahead of Nicholl who was joined by Wylie with Simms another two points behind. With one to play Galloway, Nicholl and Wylie were level, two points ahead of Simms. In the one hole ‘shoot-out’ Nicholl and Wylie both ‘dinged’ leaving Galloway with a bogey to take first place by a point. Nicholl with a better back nine finished second with Wylie third. Simms who had a chance of a placing double bogeyed the last to finish one point behind.

At the turn in Division 3 Jason Lorimer (19) was a point ahead of Jonathan Keys (18) and Robert Topping (17) followed by Ronnie Taylor (17) a further three points behind. Through Beechers Lorimer still held a one point lead over Keys with Topping and Taylor at two and three points respectively further behind. Lorimer held on to his one point lead when he finished par, ‘ding’, bogey with Keys (bogey, double bogey, bogey) second. Topping (double bogey, bogey, bogey) and Taylor (‘ding’, par, par) finished together and with a better back nine Taylor took third place.

Andrew McFarlane (28) held a three point advantage over Michael Barr (21) entering the back nine in Division 4 with Steve Henry (24) and Kevin Duffin (21) another point behind. Approaching the fourteenth tee McFarlane had increased his advantage to four points over Barr with Henry and Duffin a further three and four points respectively behind. Through sixteen McFarlane (‘ding’ at sixteen) was three points ahead of Barr with Duffin with the help of a birdie at Beechers closing to within one point of Barr. Henry was a further two points behind. In a close finish McFarlane hit a poor spell and took a triple bogey followed by another ‘ding’. Barr took advantage of the opportunity presented to him and with two bogeys joined McFarlane and with a better back nine Barr finished first with McFarlane second. One point behind Henry (bogey, par) joined Duffin (par, double bogey) and with a better back six Henry 
finished third.

Jordan Hood (Scr) won the Gross and Noel McAlynn (19) won the Seniors.
