McCloy remains stable in hospital

The family of former Derry captain Kevin McCloy who collapsed minutes into Wednesday night’s Senior Championship match between Lavey and Magherafelt at Owenbeg have thanked the emergency services who treated Kevin at the scene.

The 2007 All-Star remains in a stable condition in Altnagelvin Hospital where doctors are continuing to monitor his condition.

“Kevin was taken ill on Wednesday evening, August 13th at Owenbeg GAA Grounds,” said a statement from the player’s family.

“He received attention from the emergency services at the scene and was transferred to hospital where he is stable and currently undergoing assessment. Kevin’s wife and family are very grateful to those who are caring for him and to all who have offered good wishes and prayers for Kevin. At this time they request that their privacy be respected.”

Derry County Chairman, John Keenan, said the thoughts of every Gael was with Kevin, his family and everyone from the Erin’s Own club.

“The thoughts of Derry GAA, its clubs and players are with Kevin McCloy, his family and all at Lavey GAA,” said Mr. Keenan.

“We would like to praise the players, match officials and stewards and the medical teams of both clubs at Owenbeg for their swift actions in attending Kevin. In particular, I wish to commend the efforts of the doctors and paramedics present at the ground and the swift response of the paramedics from Altnagelvin Hospital.”

A spokesperson for Lavey said everyone at the club was hoping for a full and speedy recovery
