McDowell supports charity golf marathon

RATHMORE Golf Club's European Tour golfer, Graeme McDowell, has lent his support to the efforts of his friends Ricky and Glenn Mann in their forthcoming marathon charity day in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind Northern Ireland.

Graeme has played golf with both brothers over the years and, when he was contacted about the event, he immediately agreed to help. An auction was one of the fundraising efforts and Bradley Quinn Photography kindly donated a limited edition of a signed Snow Patrol print.

Graeme put in a bid there and then for 1,000 and also donated several signed baseball caps and a signed wood. Bradley Quinn Photography heard of the bid and generously supplied a further print, allowing Graeme to have the first one, and still have one to auction.

Other sponsors for the Charity Day include Steven Gorman of Eastern Promise, Turkey Ltd who provided a voucher for a one week stay for two in the Mayflower residence, Kusadasi as a prize on the day.

Most of the holes and tees have been sponsored but some remain and anyone interested in assisting in any way, donation of prizes, sponsoring a hole or a tee or just playing, should contact Glenn at [email protected]

As well as organising the golf day at Cairndhu, the two Larne brothers, together with Brian Galway and Aaron Wilson, plan to play a single hole on as many courses as they can in one day, at present the plan includes 27 venues!

The date for the event is Friday 2nd July and the estimated tee-off times for the local courses involved are listed at the end of this article. The finishing point is Cairndhu Golf Club where ordinary mortal golfers will have been playing in the charity golf day. Entertainment is on the agenda then, together with the prizegiving ceremony. Proceeds will be in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind Northern Ireland.
