McElderry's strike gives Ladies three points

Dromore Amateurs Ladies 1

Coleraine Ladies 0

LAST Wednesday Dromore Ladies took on Coleraine in the NIWFA Championship.

Dromore went into the game hoping to build on a fantastic victory the previous week in which they beat Fermanagh 3-1. Roger McCartan made one change from the previous week as Emma McClements came into the team in place of Laura Stewart.

The game started and like the previous week Dromore took the fight to Coleraine; Kerry Taggart began strongly and began turning the Coleraine left back inside out with her mazy runs.

Dromore controlled the game with Jill Bruce and Lauren Gibson taking the game to Coleraine from midfield and also stopping Coleraine’s midfield from having any possession. At the back Tracy Orr marshalled her defence with keeper Laura Magowan merely spectating as Dromore kept Coleraine away form her goal.

With almost 30 minutes played Dromore started another attack. The ball was played into Nikky Clements’ feet, she held off the Coleraine defender and passed the ball to Ciara McElderry who unleashed a powerful right foot drive from all of 30 yards. The Coleraine keeper dived low to her left and managed to parry the ball away but unfortunately for her Kerry Taggart was alive to the shot and followed up smashing the ball into the net. The home crowd celebrated as at last Dromore’s pressure had finally paid off.

The rest of the half was more of Dromore pressing and but for one corner from Coleraine which went across the six yard box Dromore reamined well on top.

The second half began with Emma McClements being switched to man mark Coleraine’s young winger, she was the only apparent danger to Dromore with her pace and ball control.

Dromore began to apply pressure to the Coleraine goal and Kerry Taggart almost doubled her tally but the keeper managed to keep her out.

At the other end an in-swinging corner from Coleraine was heading for the net when man of the match Jill Bruce bravely headed the ball off the line and Lauren Gibson hooking the ball from the danger zone.

At the back Dee Lindsay broke up any further Coleraine attacks and the match finished 1-0. With two wins on the trot Dromore go to last year’s Division One champions, St Matthew’s, tomorrow (Wednesday) at Ormeau Park looking to secure another three points.
