McGarry Finishes in top spot

FIN McGarry was the winner of the April Monthly Medal held at Ballycastle Golf Club on Saturday.

Fin, playing off seventeen, made birdies on his last two holes for a superb nett score of 65 to finish three shots ahead of Steven Devlin in second place and Thomas McLean in third. Fourth place went to Honorary Secretary David Douglas with a nett 69 and fifth place to Liam McGonigle also on nett 69. Rory McCormick had the best gross score of the day with a 73 and Neil McMaster took the second gross prize with his round of 74.

The hard ground and swirling wind made club selection challenging for many on Saturday but there was no such trouble for Gerard McCloskey at the par three 10th as he knocked his six-iron tee shot into the cup for an amazing hole-in-one!

A charity team event was held at Ballycastle on Sunday 25th April to raise funds for the R.N.L.I. In this competition, the best three stableford scores at each hole count towards the team total and first prize on Sunday went to the quartet of Jonathan Blair, Eddie McMullan, Paul Taggart and Harry Sheehan with a score of 125 points.

The fourball of Patrick Dallat, Francis McGinn, Rory Gallagher and Liam Gallagher took second place in this competition with their total of 124 points.

The club’s Ulster Cup team played the second leg of their match against Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club at Ballycastle on Sunday but despite beating their opponents on the day had a little too much ground to make up from last weekend’s away match and unfortunately slipped to defeat in this competition.

The PGA Tankard will be held at the club next Saturday 1st May, a Gent’s stableford is scheduled for Sunday and on Monday, a May Day Open stableford competition will take place.
