McGrady flies to victory at Crossgar Road

ON a warm evening last Thursday night 19 riders gathered outside St Colman’s High School on the Crossgar road outside Ballynahinch to contest round 19 of Dromara Cycling Club’s summer club league.

It was a 10 mile time trial on the Crossgar road starting at St Colman’s High School and taking the riders along the twisty and hilly roads to the turn which was approximately one mile from Crossgar and back to Ballynahinch.

The course is known for its twisty roads and tight climbs and hasn’t been known as a suitable course to post a personal best time, although some fast times were posted as a result of the good weather.

The timekeepers, Ryan Mallon and Bryce Hetherington, got the riders away just after 7pm.

It wasn’t long before the first rider was back and at the end of the night it was Aaron McGrady to took the honours of the fastest time of the night with a time of 25:24, followed by Phoenix CC’s Cathal Smyth, Chris Magowan and Marcus Magowan who completed the top five in that order.

Next round of the club league is this Thursday night (August 9), which is the Harry Ferguson memorial race on the Magheraconluce circuit with the sign on at the car park at the Harry Ferguson homestead. For more information see www.dromaracc.co.uk.

DROMARA RIDERS COMPETE IN THE MADIGAN GP - The club would like to say well done to the riders who competed in the Madigan GP in Carrickfergus on Saturday past, and a mention to Anthony Quinn who finished 11th in the A3 race.

MOURNE SPORTIVE AND HILLY LEISURE TOURS - The club would like to thank all of the cyclists who participated in the Mourne Sportive and Hilly Leisure tours on Sunday past. Over 200 riders attended to ride the four routes on offer and we were glad to hear some good feedback from those that participated.

Thanks to Dromara Village FC for the use of their clubhouse as the headquarters , to Leitrim Fontenoys for the use of their big festival tent for the tea stop, to Meelmore lodge for the Mourne Sportive tea stop and to the food sponsors for supplying the range of food on offer at both teastops.
