McHugh, who has won a string Irish titles, is set to compete in the singles event and partner Ian McClure (Portrush) in the pairs.

The Larne man was a member of the rink which struck gold at the 1998 games in Kuala Lumpur. McClure, Booth and Gary McCloy joined him then.

In fact, Northern Ireland representatives have an impressive record in the Commonwealth Games, having won medals on each occasion, dating back to 1982 in Brisbane.

Last year McHugh bolstered an impressive CV winning both the Irish singles and pairs competitions (alongside Barry Browne) at Larne Bowling Club. It was the fifth time he has got his hands on the singles title, and his fourth doubles success.

The squad for Glasgow will be managed by Jim Baker and they will play their games at Kelvingrove.
