McIlroy wins another victory

CONDITIONS were ideal for golf at Ballycastle on Saturday and Eamon McIlroy, playing off eleven, covered the course in one over par to win the section one stableford competition with a superb total of 46 points.

Dessie Donnelly was also in good form on Saturday and his score of 44 points put him in second place with Cormac O’Connor taking third with 42 points.

In the section two stableford, Liam McLean was the winner with 42 points, Ivor Torrens finished second with 40 points and Louis Sweeney third with 39 points.

The weather wasn’t quite as pleasant on Sunday but the golf was still good with Peter Dowds winning section one on the back nine from Eamon McCarry and Austin Mullan after all three had finished with a total of 39 points.

Raymond Brown was Sunday’s section two winner with an excellent total of 43 points with Gerry Norwood and Michael Dallat in second and third places respectively after they returned scores of 42 points apiece.

There was a convocation of eagles recorded in the ringer competitions over the weekend with Simon Lynn, Ciaran Mort and Francis McGinn making threes on the par five twelfth, Mel Carleton a three at the first hole, Roland Kearns a two at the fifth and Tommie Simpson a two at the ninth hole!

Although not in the ringer competition, Niall Hill produced the most lucrative eagle of them all on Saturday by making a hole-in-one at the par three 13th!

John Morgan’s fine score of 42 points won of the open stableford competition played on Wednesday 13th October with Brendan Black in second place and Patrick Campbell in third with 38 points apiece.

The end of season presentation of cups and trophies will take place in the club on Saturday 30th October at 10pm. A list of prize-winners can be found on the club website and the competition notice-board.
