McKee wins the Agnew Stroke Trophy with sub-sixty score

The winner of the Agnew Stroke Trophy even broke into the fifties, where Edward McKee netted a fifty eight total.

This should keep him interested for the third and final round of the Harper, which will be played in conjunction with the Neil Wray Memorial.

Playing with a handicap of twenty McKee scored four pars plus four single bogeys and a double bogey on the par four eighth which left him with fourteen shots in hand for the back nine.

That back nine saw Edward register five pars plus a dropped shot on the twelfth, fourteenth, fifteenth and eighteenth which totted up to a ten over gross having him with a ten under fifty eight which will result in a severe reduction of his handicap allowance in future rounds.

Second place was taken by Philip J McBurney (23) who posted a nett score of sixty which on most Saturdays would have been enough to win handsomely.

Philip recorded eight pars plus five bogeys and he double bogeyed the sixth, eighth, eleventh and eighteenth and another fine score could still be in the locker when he does away with the double bogeys.

Third nett was Clifford Andrews (22) with a nett total of seven under sixty one.

He ousted his namesake William over the last three holes by a single shot.

Clifford had a poor start as he dropped eight shots over the first five holes but he managed to par three of the next four holes to be out in nine over gross.

He birdied the par three tenth and then had a run of five fives plus three fours for a second nine six over and a gross of eighty three.

This converted into a nett total of sixty one.

William Andrews (21) scored pars on the first and seventh to which he added six bogeys plus a double bogey on the fifth.

The second nine holes were made up of a trio of pars and six bogeys which gave him a nett score of sixty one overall and he lost out to his name sake by virtue of a five on the last hole against a four from Clifford.

The Club Captain Mr Henry Eagleson (9) was fifth nett with a score of sixty two nett. Henry’s outward nine saw him score five pars, bogies on the second, fifth and sixth plus he birdied the first hole which saw him through the nine holes in two over. The inward was even better as he scored six pars plus a dropped shot on the sixteenth and seventeenth and a birdie on the fifteenth resulted in a nine hole total of one over gross and he played the course in three over gross for a nett total of sixty two.

Ciaran Martin who had a shot handicap on each hole returned a nett score of sixty three. A front nine of eight over which included five bogeys along with two double bogeys and he parred the second and birdied the par five third.

The back nine was very steady where he scored five bogeys to which he added pars on the twelfth, thirteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth to the five over and he ended up with a nett total of sixty three.

Michael Smyth (5) got back on the best gross podium with a round of two over gross.

A front nine of four pars, three bogeys plus a birdie on the third and seventh was added to on the back nine where he scored five pars, a dropped shot on the penultimate hole and a double bogey on the tenth.

However Michael managed to retrieve two shots with a birdie on the fifteenth and eighteenth for a gross card of seventy shots.

The third round of the Harry Harper will be contested by the top twenty four scores from the previous two rounds.

The twenty fourth score teeing off at 2.04pm and the leading two round total teeing off at 2.44pm.
