McKinney first in 10 Mile Club Championship

As it seems this summer that the wind plays a big factor in these events, the strong northerly wind did not affect these riders as there were personal bests by seven of them.

Winner of the Club Championship senior section was new signing and Audi GP winner Bryan McKinney in a personal best time of 22-23. This promising all rounder who the previous week was mixing it at Banbridge in the Noel Teggart Memorial road race showing that he can combine both skills of time trialling and road racing.

Bryan's father Eddy a founding member of the neighbouring club Bann Wheelers put in a seasons best of 26-45, this was after only returning to cycling this year. Eddy himself in his career won my road races and championship time trials.

Second to Bryan was Bann Valley rider John McIlderry in 22-30, and third was Ballymoney rider Chris Beattie (BRC) 22-36. BCC Child Protection officer

Niall O'Hagan who had his handlebars go slack in the first couple of miles rode on and got a personal best of 24-02.

Schoolboy Championship trophies were won by Jack Owens (U16) and Blayne Watton (U14).

Both young men recorded personal bests.

This is only the second time that Jack and Blayne ever rode a 10tt so it made it really special for them that it was done in their new clubs Championship, Jack recorded 28-14 and Blayne 27-22. Blayne is using these club events in his preparation for the schoolboy national championships later this year.

Other notable times recoded were by Jason Taggart, Stevie McAllister, Neville and John Patton, Nigel Elder and Aaron Dickie.

Belfast Halfords Professional Criterium Series

Halfords are promoting a two city criterium here in Ireland with one race in Belfast and the other in Dublin.

Niall O'Hagan hired a mini bus and 18 club members and friends made their way to see this exciting spectacle on Friday night.

This was also another opportunity for the club members to meet honorary club member and professional cyclist

Stephen Gallagher, Stephen's Sigma Sport Specialized team was in action at this race although Stephen was unable to take part due to illness.

Just back from the Tour of Italy was Daniel Martin (Garmin Transitions) Daniel was showing the local lads his new electric gearing system on his

Felt bike and had his photo taken for the clubs album.

The race was won at an average speed of over 30mph by An Post rider David O'Loughlin. The Saturday night race in Dublin was won by Dan Martin.

Coming Events

This Wednesday night the club are promoting their popular Inter Club road race at Bendooragh, this is a 26 mile event on this fast and at times challenging Circuit.

First group is off at 7pm Everyone is welcome to come along and give it a lash.

On the 26th and 27th June the Belfast-Dublin-Belfast Maracycle 200mile round trip is being run. Taking part in this is BCC lady rider Joan Tengrove, the club wish

Joan the best wishes and safe cycling in this mega challenging event. A full coverage will be in later reports.

This weekend is the Tour of Innishowen that cover 100 miles of fabulous Donegal and climbs the mammoth Mamore Gap is being promoted by North Pole CC.

At the minute 11 BCC riders are planning to ride it.
