McKinstry takes on top field at Antrim

Fit N Running athlete Mark McKinstry brought the curtain down on a successful cross country season when he made his International debut at Greenmount on Saturday.

The event incorporates the home countries’ International championships.

He received the call up to the Northern Ireland team following his silver medal at the national championships.

Going in a field laced with quality, including some impressive Africans, the 31 year old Glenwherry man revelled in the experience and claimed a very creditable 38th place in 36mins 32secs over the 10800 metres course.

The race winner was Thomas Ayetc of Uganda in a time of 31mins 27secs.

MAGHERAFELT HARRIERS 10K

Meanwhile Conor Sheils continued his preparations for the forthcoming Manchester Marathon.

He used the Magherafelt 10k as a training run completing the course in 38mins 10secs.

NEW RUNNERS

The club are currently recruiting runners to their advanced group.

It’s ideal for those who would like to improve their running times, technicque and minimise injury risk.

It takes the guess work out of training as Nutrition plans, Strength Conditioning plans and monthly periodised plans are provided to all runners. Contact details below.

Fit N Running weekly sessions and times are as follows:

Monday 6.15pm Recreational Run.

Tuesday 6.15pm Advanced Run.

Wednesday 6.15pm Conditioning Circuit class.

Wednesday 7.30pm Recreational Run.

All these sessions are from the Michelin Athletic Club on the Woodside Road in Ballymena.
