McPeake finishes runner-up at Altamuskin 5 mile race

CHRIS McPeake got back some of the form when he finished 2nd to Stephen Duncan of Omagh Harriers in the Altamuskin 5 mile road race,

There were over 200 starters which included seven Sperrin Harriers at the starting line for the race and conditions were ideal for running, the only thing left to fear was the few nice hills that was on the course.

As the race set off at 12-00 it was the hot favourite Stephen Duncan that lead them out with Kriss Muldoon Omagh TC,

Glenn Donnelly and Chris McPeake chasing him with the next Sperrin runner David O’Brien in about 16th position and then the two McElroy’s John and Fergal followed by Russell Bell and Micheal McCrory making their way through the field.

Our lady in the race, Frances C.W, was having a good race,When the Athletes reached the half-way mark Duncan was well clear with McPeake and Muldoon fighting for 2nd position.

Unfortunately due to a injury Glenn had decided to call a day with the Larne half Marathon only a week away Glenn wasn’t taking any chances, Damian Cox Omagh Harriers had now moved up to 4th position with Conor McCarroll 5th, Simon Reeve North Belfast 6th,David O’Brien had now moved up a few places with Fergal and John also making good progress,

But there was to be no catching Duncan and he crossed the line in a superb time of 25-18, with McPeake finishing in 28-27, Muldoon 28-48, 4th Cox 30-11, 5th McCarroll 30-13, 6th Reeve 30-19 7th Pat McCrory Omagh 30-20, 8th Shane McGale Omagh 31-47 9th Andrew,Bates 31-47, 10th Proinsias McCaughey 31-50, 11th Dominic McCartan 32-14 12th David O’Brien 32-23 and finished 2nd O/50 behind Dominic.

Next to finish for Sperrin Harriers was John McElroy in 35-25, with Fergal McElroy 36-53, Russell Bell 39-48, Micheal McCrory 42-24, and our final athlete was Francis C.W. and 1st in her catt again well everyone.

Magherafelt classic

Time is now ticking away and there is now only four weeks training to the 2nd running Magherafelt 5 Mile Classic

The venue again will be the Meadowbank Sports arena where Registration will start at 10am with the race setting off at 12-00 sharp from the Rainey Rugby Club.

Rome Marathon

Well done to Paul McErlain, the lone Sperrin Harrier that was competing in the Rome Marathon at the weekend. Paul finished in a time of 3hr 54min 1sec. Well done Paul

OVER the next few weeks the Sperrin Harriers will be out in force. Next Saturday March 24 the first Half Marathon of the new season will be held in Larne.

And then the following week March 31, will be the Omagh Half also there is a lot of talk about the Ballyliffin International 10 mile coastal Challenge on April 7, Also on April 1 we will have athletes competing in the Connemara Marathon so there are a couple of tough weeks ahead and the Club wishes all the athletes all the best in their races.
