Medal success as local gymnasts represent country at the Celtic Cup

Ewan McAteer, who took the all around junior title and finised in first place on the rings.

Ewan competed for Ireland at the 2016 Celtic Cup in the Isle of Man.

The Celtic Cup consists of teams from Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland and IOM.

Ewan, who had not competed all six pieces of apparatus in a number of months due to an injury, took the all around junior title with a personal best score.

Ewan was a member of the Ireland team which took the silver medal in the team event.

This event was an opportunity for Ewan to get back to full fitness by competing all apparatus again after his injury and to try some new skills, particularly on rings where he received an impressive score of 13.4.

The local gymnast finished in first place on rings in the competition with this score.

In the minor competition, Salto gymnast Eamon Montgomery had a very successful competition with the highest score of the day on floor with an impressive 13.35.

Eamon competed for the team on vault and high bar also and on both of these apparatus achieved the highest scores for Team Ireland.

Eamon was second on the high bar in the minor competition and made a huge contribution to Team Ireland who finished second in the competition.

Ben Harron, Fintan Kelly, Ronan McCrory and Daniel Monaghan all from Salto Gym were representing Northern Ireland at the Celtic Cup.

All boys contributed to the Northern Ireland Team taking the bronze medal.

Ben Harron and Fintan Kelly in particular had a good competition hitting personal best scores.

In the women’s competition Salto gymnast Casey Bell also had a super competition and likewise took the all around title with a score of 50.7.

This was not a personal best for Casey who had to reduce the difficulty content of her routines due to dislocating her toe a few weeks ago.

Salto gymnast Rebecca Geddis also represented Ireland in the team event and helped the team take the silver medal.

There were a total of eight gymnasts from Salto Gym who competed in the Celtic Cup competition at the weekend and the club is extremely proud that they continue to produce a high number of elite gymnasts to represent their country. This is of course due to the help of their very dedicated senior coaching team - Sun Jie, Gina Popa-Dickson, Wajdi Bouallegue and Kirsty Millar.
