Medals Galore for Shooting Starz Gymnasts

Shooting Starz Gymnasts truly excelled at the Tony Byrne Cup, a major Womens Artistic Gymnastics competition held recently at the National Gymnastics Centre, Salto, Lisburn.

Every member of the Artistic girls team of Francesca Bertolina, Gemma Mullan, Jennifer Smyth, Orlaith Watson and Niamh Watson came won medals.

Niamh was first in every event in the introductory level, an outstanding achievement for her first artistic competition.

In level four her sister Orlaith placed first on vault, second on asymmetric bars with a very clean routine and was third in the overall.

Francesca won vault and was also first on floor, gaining a very high score for a beautifully executed routine in her category of Level Four. She also placed third on beam and second overall. Jennifer was a deserving winner on bars and second behind team-mate Francesca on vault. It was a clean sweep on vault as Gemma easily won vault and came second on bars and beam and overall in Level Three.

An amazing total of 17 medals went to the Shooting Starz team, delighting their coach Ann Hebor.

The girls are currently training intensively at their gym in Campsie for the Northern Ireland Womens Artistic Gymnastics championships June 6.
