Michael is the runaway winner

Between ladies and gents the entries just fell short of one hundred. Once again scoring was quite modest with just four gents bettering the par of thirty six points. It turned out to be a great family double as brother and sister Michael and Niamh McSherry topped their respective rankings.

In the gents competition Michael McSherry was the runaway winner with a score of 43 stableford points.

This five handicapper was one under par through nine holes. He birdied holes two and four and recorded a bogey on the sixth. Pars were his lot over the other six holes. The highlights of the inward nine were an eagle two on the thirteenth and a birdie at the last. In between he coped with bogeys on holes eleven, and seventeen. Pars on the rest of the holes enabled him to shot a gross 68 and thus win the principal net prize.

Marcel Shanks was runner-up with a very tidy effort of 39 points. This seven handicapper had four pars on the opening nine. He registered a pair of double bogeys on holes three and six. However birdies on holes four, eight and nine helped to recover some of the deficit. The back nine comprised six pars to go alongside bogeys on holes eleven, fourteen and sixteen.

A tally of 38 points put Patrick Currie on the third net mark. This eleven handicapper had a mixed bag of scores ranging from birdies on holes six, twelve and eighteen to double bogeys on holes seven and sixteen. However pars at holes one, four, eight, ten, eleven, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen provided the necessary stability to his winning card.

With a total of 36 points the last net prize went to long time member John Richardson. This sixteen handicap golfer was best served by a sextet of pars at holes five, eight, thirteen, fourteen, seventeen and eighteen. On the opposite side of the coin double bogeys on holes three and eleven and a no-return on the sixth did little to enhance his card.

The gross prize went to Conall Coleman. This six handicapper took the honours with 32 gross points. His day started with a birdie on the first. Thence followed six pars to accompany bogeys on holes six and eight. Another birdie came his way on the tenth hole. The rest of his round comprised pars and bogey of equal amounts. Pars were attained on holes twelve, sixteen, seventeen and eighteen.

Finally a score of 39 points allowed six handicapper Niamh McSherry to head the ladies competition and thus emulate her brother.
