Michelin sides grab doubles and three-a-side titles at Pool Festival

MICHELIN sides tasted success in both the doubles and three-a-side competitions in the Ballymena Towers Pool League section of the Festival of Pool last week.

Michelin Inbetweeners beat Fairhill ‘A’ Stars in the three-a-side competition, which attracted an entry of 10 teams.

The team - comprised of Phil Houston, Gary Ormandy and Lee Wright - saw off the Fairhill trio of Ritchie Irwin, Justin Kilpatrick and George McCullough by five frames to four in a thrilling contest.

Preliminary round: Diamond Dazzlers 2, Michelin Masters A 5; Fairhill A 4, Fairhill A Stars 5.

Round one: Michelin Masters A 3, Diamond Dazzlers 5; Mohicans 4, Michelin Inbetweeners 5; Social Sports A 1, Michelin Masters 5; Slemish Tavern 4, Fairhill A Stars 5.

Semi-finals: Diamond Dazzlers 0, Michelin Inbetweeners 5; Michelin Masters B 4, Fairhill A Stars 5.

Final: Michelin Inbetweeners 5, Fairhill A Stars 4.


Meanwhile, 17 pairs entered the doubles competition and the final was contested by two Michelin pairs.

In a closely-fought final, Rick McMaster and Drew Sloan overcame the Armstrong brothers, David and Alan, by five frames to three.

The Captains’ prize was won by Ritchie Irwin who beat David Armstrong by two frames to one in the final.
