Millar time for East Coast athlete at Carnfunnock

East Coast Athletic Club members again showed a strong presence at the popular Larne parkrun on Saturday. Stephen Millar was the first of the athletes from the club to complete the Carnfunnock course, finishing the 5k time trial in fourth, with a new personal best time of 21:20.

John Steele, a regular at the event, was fifth with a time of 21:43.

Hannah Clements was the first female to cross the line for the East Coast club in fifth place with a time of 25:45, with her dad, Paul Clements, coming home shortly behind her in 22nd place.

Sharon Hunter completed the parkrun for the first time, taking ninth place in the female category with a fantastic time of 28:41. Kian McAllister, a junior male under-10 competitor, finished 39th overall in 29:02, before Daniel Gillian (JM11-14) reached the finishing line at Drains Bay in 44th place (30:08). The impressive Charlotte Smyth was next home for the club, finishing in 20th position with a new personal best time of 31:50.

Sally McKeown was the next female to finish the race, taking 22nd position for the ladies’ event (32:49). Sally was soon followed by parkrun regular Patricia Campbell in 33:43.

Also on Saturday, four East Coast AC members completed the Lurig Mountain Race in Cushendall.

The event, which is approximately 3.5 miles in distance, with 375 metres of ascent, was part of a week-long festival in the area and saw a mix of mountain, road and fun runners convene for the classic ‘to the top and back’ course.

Nearly 400 competitors took to the start line, with East Coast Athletic Club’s Murray Dellar making it back to the village finish line in a new personal best time of 35:22 for 30th place.

Brian Maltman was next across the line, like Murray, showing his qualities over a mix of terrain.

Brian completed the relentless route in 44:58 (126th).

Not to be outdone, East Coast ladies Kelly Dellar and Sharon Kirkpatrick ran very well, crossing the atmospheric finish line together in 1:04:17 for 300th and 301st positions respectively.

Stephen Kennedy and Claire Conway represented East Coast AC at Friday’s five-mile Stanley Reid Memorial Road Race in Cookstown.

In a record field of almost 350 runners, they completed the course together, taking 251st and 252nd places respectively with a time of 48:56.
