Millpark secure promotion to Section One

MILLPARK confirmed their promotion to Division One Section One on Sunday past with the locals travelling to take on relegation bound Cregagh who also had a lot to play for.

Cregagh won the toss and elected to bat first. It was skipper Martin who was to strike first, removing Simpson for five and he struck again soon after, removing the hard hitting Aaron Kerr for 10.

Javed and Ian Kerr then provided a bit of stability for Cregagh although not really accumulating runs at a great pace for a 20/20 match.

Glover was the man to break the partnership with Stuart Kidd completing the catch at cover. David Maxwell was then brought into the attack and struck with his second ball, removing cregagh skipper watt for one.

With a few lusty blows at the end the Cregagh batsmen were able to get the total up to a respectable 100 off their 20 overs.

Millpark took to the wicket with usual openers Glover and Stevie McCart and the got to 25 before McCart (4) was run out after a embarrassing mix up.

This brought Martin to the crease and he was quick to depart off a chest high full toss that wasn’t called by the umpires.

With Kidd and Glover at the crease they started to build what was to become a match winning partnership. With some fine shots either side of the wicket by both players it was enough to see Millpark home in the 15th over for the loss of just two wickets, Glover finishing with 37 not out and Kidd 35 not out.

It has proved to be a great season for Millpark with the first XI now joining local rivals Donacloney in Division One Section one for the 2011 season.
