Missed out on bonus points

ST Paul’s missed out on the three bonus points as their Tandragee opponents made a strong finish in the second half of this match.

On mat one for St Paul’s Jenny McVeigh, Catherine McGrail, Kate Agnew and Mary Campbell quickly recovered from being 4-0 behind to score single and double shots in their five winning ends for an 8-6 win against skip Stanley Black.

Peter McGrail, Aiden McKavanagh, Bridie McCorry and Elish Sullivan on two for St Paul’s made an unsteady start and found themselves trailing 5-1 to skip G. Laverty after four ends.

They fought back gamely to score six shots and move 7-6 ahead but were 9-7 behind going into the last end where Peter McGrail helped his colleagues score two vitals shots for a 9-9 draw and a share of the point.

With an interval lead of two shots the St Paul’s four of Dan Dempsey, Jim McMullen, Seamus Devlin and Joe Mallon made a shaky start, losing nine shots in the first four ends.

The Tandragee rink under skip P. Lappin were content to concede only seven shots to their opponents in the closing stages as they sealed a well deserved 14-7 victory.

On mat four for St Paul’s skip Molly Ward, Paul Henderson, Tony Haughey and Glroia Coleman looked like they were heading for defeat when they trailed Tandragee skip Nick Garvey 7-3.

However this new Taghnevan rink made a splendid recovery to draw level at 8-8 with two ends remaining.

They stunned their opponents by adding three more shots for a surprise 11-8 victory and another league point.
