MIXED RESULTS AND EMOTIONS FOR CRFC YOUTHS

No game again this week for Coleraine’s new U13 side as visitors Newry failed to put up a squad.

This reflects the fact that many Provincial Clubs are struggling to match the success at CRFC’s Youth Section who are proactive in recruiting young players to the Club through the great work of CCRO Daniel McAuley.

U15s Coleraine 10 Newry 25

The Coleraine U15s side met their match in a skillful Newry outfit who ran at them with pace and made good use of some intelligent kicking. Whilst Coleraine outweighed Newry in the pack, they failed to take advantage of their muscle despite some valiant efforts from the likes of No 8 Josh Devenney and Lock Timmy Lloyd and two unconverted tries from outhalf Paddy Kane.

Many other try opportunities for Coleraine went begging as the final effective pass never happened and some good defence from Newry held their hosts at bay within a sniff of the elusive try line. Sadly towards the end of the game Coleraine lost their influential hooker Leon Inch to a bone injury and he is expected to be out until after Christmas. In front of a good home support on Pitch One it was Newry who ended as deserved winners, leaving Coleraine looking forward to another competitive return fixture in the New Year.

U17s Coleraine 61 Newry 0

Despite another fabulous score meaning three wins from three, Coleraine were frustrated with their opponent’s inability to put up a full 15 players and had to settle for a strange 12 v 12 game which to say was one sided would be an understatement. On the score sheet this week were: centre Alister Irwin (2), centre Ryan Purdy (2), prop Dave Whiteside (1), scrumhalf Stephen Irwin (1), outhalf Ryan Harper (1), wing Chrissy Boreland (1). Coaches were impressed by debut prop Dave Whiteside and look forward to the added strength he will bring to the pack.

All sides get a break this Saturday due to half term holidays. Training as usual Monday and Wednesday 6.45pm for 7pm sharp.
