Molloy and Haughey scoop awards

THE Glenavon stewards have given their Player of the Season Award to winger Trevor Molloy and also given defender Mark Haughey the honour of Young Player of the Season.

Molloy, who labelled himself as a man of ‘as many clubs as Nick Faldo’ in his speech, has been in top form this term scoring 17 goals in all competitions in an ultimately frustrating season for the Blues.

Haughey accepted the Young Player of the Season award for the second successive term having played at right back for long periods before making the centre back spot his own in recent weeks.

At their presentation on Saturday afternoon in the Bedeck Suite, the stewards also made a presentation of 500 to the club’s Board of Directors and that takes their contribution for the season to a total of 1260 including match and shirt sponsorships, donations to the Christmas draw and the Centenary Club.

They then went on to donate 300 to the players’ pool and also gave 100 to Ryan Harpur who is part of a team going to Uganda this summer to carry out missionary work.

The money was all raised by the club’s 16 current stewards who are keen to add to their group due to requirements of the new licensing system.

Anyone interested in becoming a Glenavon steward should contact the club at Mourneview Park on 028 3832 2472.
