Molloy is released

WINGER Trevor Molloy has not been offered a new contract at Glenavon.

The former Motherwell man ends his three and a half year stay at Mourneview Park having picked up 47 goals in 135 appearances for the club.

Fans will remember the 34 year-old for his lively wing play as he tricked his way past many a full-back.

Perhaps Molloy will be best recalled however, for that free-kick against Larne when he chipped the ball up before uniquely volleying it over the wall and into the net just weeks after joining the club in January 2008.

“I’d like to thank Trevor for his services to the club and wish him well,” said club boss Marty Quinn.

“A lot of it came down to money as well. We had to make cuts and Trevor was one of the players who had to go out the door to make those, as others did before him.

“We’re living in the real world now with the wage cap and we’ve to be very careful as to where we’re putting our money.”
