Moneyglass edge O'Cahan Cup First Round at Dreen

Moneyglass overcame a determined Rasharkin side to progress to the next round of the O'Cahan Cup.

Moneyglass took the lead in the 6th minute from a free awarded for Rasharkin over carrying, Fergal Duffin hitting the ball over from 30 yards out. Rasharkin claimed the resulting kick-out and Eamonn McNeill tapped over a simple score to equalise.

A Colum Duffin free restored the Moneyglass lead before Eamonn McNeill converted another free to bring the teams back on level terms. Moneyglass were presented with an opportunity to restore the lead as Emmet McFerran brought Colum Duffin down 30 yards from goal, he was unable to capitalise but made no mistake a minute later from an almost identical position to again put a point between the sides. An Eamonn McNeill free right on the sideline levelled the game in the 20th minute.

Sloppy play in the Rasharkin forward line saw the ball break to Colum Duffin who carried the ball from his own 45 before slipping the ball to his team-mate who made no mistake from 5 yards out to put Moneyglass up by a goal at half time.

From the throw-in Conor McFerran popped over a point to leave 2 in it and a McNeill free 5 minutes into the 2nd half cut the Moneyglass lead to a point. Eamonn McNeill levelled the game from a free before a long range Joey Quinn effort put Rasharkin into the lead for the first time in the 50th minute. A Colum Duffin point from play brought the sides level with less than 10 to play. Duffin put Moneyglass a point up from a 20m free with only 2 minutes left. Rasharkin almost snatched it at the death with a Conor McFerran goal effort going inches wide. Rasharkin weren’t done and a final attack in injury time yielded 2 45’s but the men from Dreen were unable to get the score to level matters.
