Montgomery romps home for victory on Three Oaks circuit

Bann Wheelers hosted their annual road race on Tuesday 7 May on the well known Three Oaks circuit.

Over 20 riders competed in this race on a beautiful bright evening. The race was split into three groups which worked by handicapping each group the goal being that they should all come together on the finish line. Five laps were raced with an unfortunate up and coming Glen Howe taking a puncture on the first corner putting him out of contention. The first group worked well keeping the gap open to 45 seconds at the start of the last lap where they remained ahead despite a valiant attempt by Bann Wheelers Jason McIntrye.

The race was won by seasoned triathlete Graeme Montgomery BWCC, followed by Dunloy CC’s Noel McIlfatrick with Bann Wheelers stalwart Nat Magee back on the podium in his first year back racing with the club for some time.

Bann Wheelers would like to thank time keeper Ian Nevin, marshals Neil Clarke, Jack Hutchinson, Robbie Gaston, James and Simone Thompson along with photographer Kieran Crawford. Without the support of these people it would not be possible to host these races.

Congratulations to Bobby Kane who took third place in a very challenging A2 race held by Newry Wheelers through the Mournes on Sunday 12th May. This takes in a scenic route around the coast before hitting the hills of the Mournes to complete the 60+ miles. Bobby has had several excellent results already this year and there will be a lot more to come.
