The second nine was also played in three over gross and was possibly pleased that a double stopped short on the eleventh did not cost him a winning total. That second nine contained seven pars plus a bogey on the 15th.

Runner-up was John Quigley (16) with equal nines of 20 points and his round contained double bogeys on the sixth and 14th but against that he managed to score eight pars.

A strong finish of two pars were rewarding as he pipped two returns of 39 points.

Category 1 was won by seven handicaper Paddy Kearney, with a grand total of 38 points having scored 19 on each nine.

His opening nine contained four dropped shots but he managed to retrieve two of those with birdies on the fourth and seventh.

The closing nine was very steady as he scored seven fours plus a five on the 11th and a three on the 16th and he completed his round with four straight pars.

Barry Mooney (9) was posted 39 points to take the Category 2 prize and he had very contrasting pair of nines.

The front nine contained four single pointers which resulted in a mediocre score of 17 points but the back nine was much different as he

had eight pars plus his only dropped shot being on the par four 11th.

This resulted in him scoring five points more than on the front nine which deserved to get a prize.

Category 3 saw Maurice Wylie (18) come to the surface with a total of 39 points and that included a non event on the par four sixth.

The eighteen handicaper scored a trio of of pars on the outward trip giving him a total of 19 points.

The inward nine produced 20 points and although he again had a trio of pars, he shed two shots on the par four 15th but a par on the final hole was rewarding.

Ronnie Anderson was Category 4, having played to his handicap of 19 which gave him 36 points.

The 7.30 tee-off was possibly somewhat early as he failed to score any points on the opening hole and this was followed by for single bogeys.

Ronnie then came good over the next four holes where he had pars which gave him 20 points going into the second nine.

Here he fell by the wayside as he failed to register any pars and three double bogeys plus six singles produced only 16 points but that twenty on the front nine stood him in good stead.

The best gross was won by Sean McGarry with a score of 68 shots, having been two under on the front nine on the front nine and two over on the back nine.

Sean had a cracking start to his round as he stood three under par after five holes having birdied the 1st, 3rd and 5th and his only

dropped shot was on the eighth.

The second nine commenced with five straight pars only to drop a shot on the 15th followed with a double bogey on the next hole but he

managed to finish with a par plus a birdie on the final hole for a level par round.

Played in conjunction with the Currie Cup was the Thompson Cup which caters for members of sixty years plus and this was won by James Millar (19) with a total of 39 points and on a better second nine from James Drennan (11) and Ivan McMaster (17).

The winner scored 18 points on the first nine and that was despite having had no points on the fourth and the sixth.

The second nine produced 21 points which came from seven single bogeys plus pars on the 13th and 17th.

Second placed Drennan scored 19 on the first nine and that included a non score on the third.

This second nine was quite a mixture of two pars, four single bogeys, a double bogey on the 11th and he birdied the 12th and 18th for 20 points and that was enough to push McMaster into third place.

Ivan had a superb front nine which yielded 22 points having been four pars over gross

The back nine contained a double bogey on the 15th plus a triple bogey on the 11th for 17points.
