More changes on the way

LAST seasons experimental Armagh All County League structures are set to be shelved with the forthcoming year seeing more traditional league groupings being set in place.

Last year three divisions were installed and most of the fixtures appeared to run smoothly up until the July holiday period when a four week break which was followed by the Championship season threw the structures into chaos. At the end of a first round of games all three divisions were split in two and the top half teams played in a cup competition with the bottom teams entering a shield competition.

This year it is expected that the leagues will be a one way series of games and relegation will be a three up, three down scenario. It is understood that the play-offs which were in vogue last season to decide which of the top two teams in each section were crowned champions will also be axed.

The proposed new structures however have raised some concerns considering that if all fixtures are completed on time a number of clubs if losing their first round championship games could have their season completed by early August. The Armagh County leagues have seen many variations over the years as have the Inter County National Football leagues. Some Supporters would see the GAA as a very unsettled organisation obsessed with at times with the notion of change. The new league structures which look set to be implemented in 2013 will be the fourth new set of structures in as many years.
