More exciting stock car action at Aghadowey circuit

THE sun was shining as Aghadowey hosted more exciting stockcar action on Friday 24 May.

The Eurostocks were up first. This is a class which is continually growing with the drivers enjoying the close racing. It is great to see Geoffrey Boreland, who competed in the Lightning Rods last year, compete in this class as he is one of the most competitive drivers. He was pushing hard on the night with Matthew Stirling hot on his tail, but he couldn’t deny Geoffrey the win. He also won the final to complete a great night’s racing for him.

There was another hard fought race in the Junior class in the end Sam Wright took the win from Jason Darragh and Aaron Mc Graw. In the final Peter Stewart took the win with Aaron McGraw second and Sam Wright third.

The Lightning Rods were up next and they served up a real spectacle for the large crowd of spectators. On the third lap Mark Frew seemed to clip the rumble strip causing his car to lose traction and he hit the wall very hard. The drivers close to Mark’s tail were caught up in the incident as Mark Dunlop clipped him and Bobby Johnston had nowhere else to go but into the back of Mark’s vehicle at speed. Thankfully both drivers walked away from the accident unhurt which goed to show the safety measures in place both at the track in Agahdowey but also with the cars themselves.

In the restarted race Liam Irwin took the flag from Clifford Nevin, Paul Hosie and Trevor McFaul. Mark Boyd took the win in the final.

The Bangers were up next and once again there was a strong contingent from Portadown. John Golligher and Willie McFaul battled hard but in the final Willie took the victory.

The next race meeting is on Friday 7th June at 7.15pm
