More success for Coleraine Judo Club

Last weekend Coleraine Judo Club made the long trek to Omagh for the first ever Omagh Judo Championships, returning with a medal haul of four gold, two silver and eight bronze; a grand total of 14 medals, which are detailed below.

Players attending the event came from all parts of Northern Ireland with clubs from Londonderry, Belfast and Lisburn clubs being well represented.

The Coleraine Club which is still celebrating receipt of their ‘Clubmark Accreditation,’ put up a really outstanding performance, especially by younger players who are new to the sport or have recently moved into senior (Kyu ) grades.

Notably, Abigail McAffee (silver medallist) and John Gormley (bronze medallist) both fought well against older and more experienced players.

The Coleraine players were supported by mat side coaches Philip Duncan, Paul Price and David Small (Deeks) while Peter Cuckoo and Rebecca Cuckoo were officiating and contributed to the day running smoothly.

Although present to support Coleraine, Richard Briggs was also called upon to present some of the medals.

Silver: Olivier Jeanne; Abigail McAfee

Bronze: Eva Gormley; Daniel Cahoon; Ben Patterson; Robyn Fraser; Samuel Clements; Jude Black; John Gormley; Mark Kennedy.
