Meanwhile, in the club’s GMC Electrical Road Race League, Mark Glendenning of Spires CC took first place by a clear margin in the sprint at the end of another fine race, this round being held on the tough Tyanee course.

The groups had merged on the second of the four laps and it became clear that a sprint was in the making.

As the bunch appeared around the bend 200m from the line it was Glendinning who had timed his move to perfection, pulling clear of the field all the way to the line.

A closer sprint took place for the minor positions with second spot being held by Bann Valleys Michael Clarke who fought off a determined challenge from Pierce Atchinson Harps CC.

Stephen McNally BVRC finished a great race for him by taking fourth place just behind Atchinson.
